What a heart breaking description of pain. What a tragedy of hopelessness. What a description of isolation. The thing is, there was hope, and the hope had to be based on communication. Very sad, I wished somebody had been able to establish the trust to allow communication.

Calcutta (Kolkata) is the most amazing place I have ever been. I was overwhelmed. These are excellent photographs from Calcutta, what is interesting to me is how the perspective is very different from what fascinated me. The buildings, the signs, the technology, the context of all the activity, and the wonderful overwhelming chaos and energy was what mesmerized me. These photographs focus on the people.

I love black and white photography, most of our images of America, in the past, are black and white. These photographs show what are normally black and white images in color. The emotional affect is different, to me, at least initially, the impact is muted. In some cases the photographs are a Kodak moment that hides the economic reality of the times.
